What counts as a captioned hour

What is counted

Every finished sentence a room produces carries the stretch of audio it came from. Those stretches are added up. That total, rounded to the nearest second, is your captioned time.

Two rooms captioning at the same time for one hour is two captioned hours. That is what the word room-hour means here: the meter runs per room, not per meeting.

Frasiey bills two things: captioned time, and the hours a meeting turned Summaries on. Readers and translation are never billed.

What is not counted

• Silence. The gaps between sentences are not billed, so a room that is switched on and quiet costs nothing. Chatter is different: talk between sessions turns into captions, and it is billed unless your schedule stops the room.
• Translation. Every reading language you turn on is included, always.
• Readers. One phone or four hundred, the price is the same.
• The room display screen, and the transcripts you download afterwards.
• The same audio twice. If a laptop drops its connection and sends its words again when it comes back, that stretch is counted once.

What free includes, and what a day costs

A new account is free for one room at a time, in every language, with no card, for 10 captioned hours a month. A free account is never billed. And one meeting of up to 3 rooms can be on us: see your first meeting on us. To run more than one room at once, or to turn on summaries, add a card or buy an hour pack. From then on every captioned hour is billed, including a meeting with one room.

You choose how to pay, and there is no minimum either way:

• Pay as you go. $89.00 per captioned hour, billed monthly for the hours you use. Nothing to pay in a month you don't caption.
• Hour packs. Buy hours ahead and pay less for each one, from $59.00 an hour. Pack hours last 12 months and are used before anything is billed by the hour. If a pack runs out mid-meeting, the room keeps going at the pay as you go rate.
• Summaries. $9.00 for each captioned hour a meeting has Summaries turned on, whichever way you pay. There is no included block, so it is charged from the first hour. A free account cannot turn it on.

If a paid account has no card and no pack hours left, captioning stops until you buy an hour pack or add a card, and every screen that can tell you says so rather than going quiet. You can also go back to free.

Working out a meeting in advance

Count rooms, then hours, then days. One room captioning for an eight hour day is eight captioned hours. Three rooms for three days at six hours a day is fifty four. If half the sessions in a room are breaks and lunch, the real figure lands lower than that, as long as the room is quiet or your schedule stops it. The estimator on the pricing page does the sum for you, and says which hour packs cover it.

Three ways to spend less

In the meeting's Settings, under When captions run, you choose how each room decides to start. The default is All day: the room captions whenever its laptop is running, chatter between sessions included. Simple, and the most expensive. The other three spend less:

• By hand. Nothing is captioned until somebody presses Start.
• Set hours. Captions between the two times you give, on the meeting's dates, read in the city the meeting is held in.
• Follow the schedule. Once you have imported a schedule, each room captions only its own sessions, and you can switch off any session you do not want captioned.

Set hours reads the clock of the city your meeting is held in, so the meeting's Edit form, beside its name, asks you for that city. Search for it by name and pick it from the list, and put the state or the country after the name when it is a common one, so Raleigh, North Carolina and Springfield, Illinois both find the right place. The meeting's times are then read in that city's time, everywhere they appear, for you and for everyone reading along.

Follow the schedule needs a current Frasiey app in the room. If a room's app is out of date, Settings says that room needs a Frasiey update before it can follow the schedule. Update it, or that room will caption all day.

Where to watch the number

The meeting's Analytics tab shows the hours that meeting has used. The account's Billing page shows the month so far and what it adds up to. The figure on the Billing page is our own arithmetic and is labeled as an estimate; the invoice is the final word.
