Signed and checked before it reaches you, so the first time you open it, your Mac simply asks you to confirm. Drag it into Applications before you open it, so it can keep itself up to date; a standard user is asked for an administrator's password to put it there.

A Mac on macOS 26 or later captions nine spoken languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Other Macs and Windows caption English. Attendees read in any of 100 languages either way.

Windows

The first time you open it, Windows may say it doesn't recognize the app yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway. The publisher it shows is WSAV, LLC, the company that makes Frasiey. It installs just for you, with no administrator needed.

Windows captions speech in English. Attendees still read in any of 100 languages, because the translation is made from the caption text.

First run: about ten minutes for a room, most of it the download.

Connect

Open Frasiey and it shows a square and six characters. Scan the square with your phone, or type the six characters at app.frasiey.com/pair on any computer you are signed in on.

Choose its room

The laptop asks which room it is in. Pick the room it stays in all day, or choose it later in Frasiey online.

Test the microphone

Press Test the microphone, choose Allow when the laptop asks, and say a sentence. If those words come back right, the room will too. The first time, Frasiey also gets itself ready, which is about 300 MB, once.

What the room needs.

A laptop that stays in the room all day, a microphone the room can actually hear (a ceiling array, a table mic or the lectern feed) and an ordinary internet connection. What each room needs, and who to ask.

A laptop from the last five years: a 64-bit machine with 8 GB of memory. Windows 10, 22H2 or newer, or Windows 11, 64-bit. macOS 12 or later. The first time a room is set up, the laptop gets itself ready, so that first setup needs an internet connection once. Captioning itself then runs on the laptop.

Outbound HTTPS and WebSocket to api.frasiey.com, app.frasiey.com, live.frasiey.com (attendees' phones on the venue Wi-Fi) and updates.frasiey.com, plus Apple's servers the first time a Mac downloads a language. About 300 MB the first time it gets ready.

It keeps itself up to date.

Frasiey checks for updates on its own and installs them quietly on the next restart, on Mac and Windows alike. There is nothing to schedule.

Deploying by script? Use /download/mac?arch=arm64 (or ?arch=x64 for Intel) and /download/win on updates.frasiey.com. They always point at the current installer, so the link in your runbook never goes stale.
